Don't Get Wenzeled
Ok, here's the intro: A 19 year old punk tried to rip off someone in an online sale of jeep parts on a jeep discussion forum (it takes all kinds). Well, the kid wasn't smart enough to hide his identity and essentially dared his victim to do anything about it. At each stage when he was challeneged to simply apologize and make the situation right, he either taunted people or issued some half-apology.
As you can guess, the members of the discussion group took it upon themselves to punish him. They looked up his home address, cellphone, parent's phone, parent's email, etc. and began to publicize it. Charlie apparently has a history of ripping people off and as word spread to his other victims, they picked up their cyber torches and pitchforks. They created a Wikipedia entry for him (Wenzeled). They printed bumperstickers. His story has spread to discussion forums around the world and people from those forums are expressing their opinion to Charlie Wenzel and his parents. As of this posting, close to 500,000 people have read the thread and have been sending Charlie Wenzel text messages to his cellphone and emailing his father.
Now at long last he's issuing apology after apology....but even now he appears to be sorry that his life has turned upside down, not sorry that he tried to scam someone.
